THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

While reading the fault in our stars I came across some interesting words. 

Lacquered - lak-er 

-noun 

a protective coating consisting of a resin, cellulose ester, or both, dissolved in a volatile solvent, sometimes with pigment added.

Malevolent - muh-lev-uh-luh 

-adjective 

wishing evil or harm to another or others; showing ill will; ill-disposed; malicious: His failures made him malevolent toward those who were successful.

Ambiguity -am-bi-gyoo-i-tee

—noun, plural am·bi·gu·i·ties.

doubtfulness or uncertainty of meaning or intention: to speak with ambiguity; an ambiguity of manner.

Ontological -on-tl-oj-i-kuh l

—adjective

of or pertaining to ontology, the branch of metaphysics that studies the nature of existence or being as such; metaphysical: Some of the U.S. founders held an ontological belief in natural rights.

and came across this and thought it was pretty accurate .. what do you think?

Imagery Paragraph Questions

1.     I selected this particular passage because I liked the scene I was imagining. I like the way the sentence started off ‘ I wanted to tell you about us..’, just that makes it sound like it’s going to be a happy, love, or even just a good story. It appealed to me because I love to hear happy stories or about relationships. I like how this paragraph really makes you think who he is talking too.

2.     The most common type of imagery is visual.

3.     To me the best snippet of imagery would be ‘us running’ & ‘split wine from laughing’. I choose those ones because of the image I got in my head. I picture them being happy together and enjoying wine during the sunset and having a good time.

4.     The imagery is positive, I can tell by the choice of words the author used in the paragraph. ‘Beautiful’, ‘from laughing’, ‘last day of high school’, ‘I was happy’, ‘they were happy’, ‘even let me hug her’, & ‘Congratulations was the word of the day’.

5.     I can tell the author is trying to make us feel happy and enjoy everything at that moment. The feeling how Charlie is finally happy with his life.

6.     I think the purpose of this piece of imagery is showing the true side of Charlie. I feel Charlie just wanted to say something and tell a story and it was a story that came to mind that means something to him.

Dialogue and Non Verbal Body Language

" I feel he doesn't like me anymore" stated Alice.
"Aww why?" with a confused look said Dorthy.
"He doesn't treat me the same"
"Do you know why?, There must be a reason" asked Dorthy
" I think I have been getting into to much trouble" said Alice with her eyes so small and sad.
Dorthy gave off a annoyed expression on her face. 
"Maybe you have to change a bit?" stated Dorthy.
Alice said while changing the tone in her voice. " I already do that and it's annoying! "
Alice and Dorthy's bodies were already very close together, Dorthy reached in for a hug in hope Alice would feel better.
"Let's go for a walk" Alice said with a little smile forming on her face.

Thinking of Dialogue

1.Talk about the process of eavesdropping:

i. We walked all around the hallways following different groups of people. Stayed inside the school.

ii.Not very long because it was hard to understand the conversations and people walked fast

iii. Two girls-most likely friends 

iv.we felt very out of place while eavesdropping on these girls 

2. What insight did you gain about the way people think?

-Some people talked very quietly or stopped talking when we approached them and some people talked very loud and didn't even notice

3. How can you apply this to your writing?

-We could make our characters have conversations about everyday things like what we heard.

4. How is personality and character revealed through conversation and dialogue?

-by the tone they use

-by the volume of their voice 

-by their language 

5. What happens when more than 2 people participate in a conversation?

-It gets harder to keep up with and there are more opinions. 

6. What was the most surprising thing you've learned about the way people converse?

-we were surprised at how loud people were talking and how they didn't seem to care about the surroundings 

7. What's the differences and similarities between written and spoken conversation?

-In written conversation you can't tell the tone of voice so you don't really know how they feel about what they're saying unlike in spoken conversation. 

-I'm spoken conversations you can easily change the subject and can get distracted.

-Both conversations in spoken and written form can be about very random topics

-I've never seen this before , it sucks , you've seen the lines? your saying its over . you rattled ? 

-oh yeah yeah yeah no way ! it was scary he's like listening and he lets me take his . it's good but he doesn't like when I bump him and don't go on the ground , but it's better that way I have a full hour and ten minutes to socialize and then we come back an half half an hour then have time to do whatever that's all we need , croutons and soup 

-I was really nervous and drank half of it

Imagery Paragraph - the perks of being a wallflower

Quick Write Rewind or Pause?

If I had to choose between a rewind or pause button I would choose the rewind button because I would definitely love to replay moments in my life whether them being exciting times or even the worst of times. I would re live all my favorite moments so I could experience them again. I would depending on the situation replay the moments I have regretted so I could fix them. Some of my worse moments wouldn't interest me to replay and fix because I wouldn't want to re live them, there over and done with. I think I would lear from my mistakes the first time and be able to fix it or try something new.

Text Connections #1

Text to Self

Charlie and his sister barely hang out and don’t have the best relationship. This reminds of my younger sister and our relationship when I was younger. We fought and had our differences but we would still always be there for one another. Now that were older my sister and I have a different relationship. We talk to each other about more stuff and buy each other things or help one another out. We hang out more and go out together. The only difference is Charlie is a sophomore like my sister and Charlie’s sister is graduating like I am which shows how my sister and I learned our differences and got along quicker then Charlie and his sister.

Text to World

In the novel Charlie walked in seeing Brad and Patrick kissing and after they noticed Charlie saw them Patrick approached Charlie and told him not to tell anyone. This is an issue around the world, having people hide there sexuality. A big part to this I believe is how judgmental people are. People are always caring to much what other think and not focusing on themselves. This is exactly what Brad is doing in the book. He is the popular guy and doesn’t want anyone knowing so it doesn’t get around. 

Christmas

Christmas is something that you will most likely be a big part of. Christmas happens once a year on the same day every year. It's a time of year were people listen to Christmas music which usually are similar songs that different people sing. Homes inside and out are decorated and the city has many lights and decorations up. Decorations are usually Christmas colors; red, green, white, blue, silver and gold. Everyone puts up a christmas tree in there house which is what you will take part in. Some choose to buy a fake tree from stores and some choose to buy a real one which is what you will be one day. After the Christmas season is over you will most likely be thrown out but don't worry think back to the wonderful Christmas season you had with the family that you got to watch, whcih you took part in.. People start to celebrate Christmas mid November - beginning of December so you have plenty of time to be that great smelling tree.

Minions For A Week

If I had a set of minions for a week I would have all my little cousins over and family friends kids to play with the minions and hopefully I could really make there dreams come true by having them meet the minions from a movie they have probably all seen. I would have them come along with me shopping, driving to work and doing errands etc. because I always prefer to have company with me. I would get them to help me with my chores and homework so I would have more time to focus on stuff I'd rather me doing like dance and other activities. I would treat them for all their hard work by taking them to sky zone because I think it would be funny to watch them jump around there.

I have taken art the last 3 years in high school. We've done many projects and I always wasn't too interested in the projects but 2 years ago we did a project which we had to research an artist and take one of their paintings and re create it. I got the chance to look through many artists and what kind of work they do. I finally found Edgar Degas which I decided was my favorite because of the main idea he likes to paint, dancers. I think that it would definitely change peoples eating habits. For me it would because I wouldn't want to spend my money on junk food that's not good for you. People would hopefully realize they can save there money and buy and eat healthier food. -Best of both worlds. I would hope people wouldn't still want to pay a lot for their food. I think the fast food places would still be in business because some people would probably still spend their money even if it's overpriced.

Quick write - Robot

If I had a robot servant in the future it would be very strong in cooking and baking and make meals and treats, because i personally do not enjoy cooking or baking ..also not very good at it. It would be taller then me and have very small figure. It would talk in an Australian accent.

Six Word Memoirs De-brief

What did I learn about storytelling? 

I found that depending on the word choices and punctuation you can easily tell a story, it's up to the reader to make the detail and go beyond what is shown. I learnt that it wasn't easy to come up with six words on the spot and it took a while to figure out the right words to use to fit in for the story you are trying to tell. To me a story was always something more then six words and had plenty of detail. I learnt now that it may not have plenty of detail or a main point that you can tell right away but you can still tell a story in just six words.

Where did I show my knowledge about using storytelling skills? 

I showed my knowledge using storytelling skills by trying not to use simple words that could have various meanings. I wanted the words to fit properly in each memoir. I also showed my knowledge by the punctuation. The punctuation helped give effect to my six words and tell the story better. Even though there was six words I still tried to use as much punctuation as possible to try and tell the story better. I also learnt that the picture I choose makes a big impact for a better understanding of the six words.

What did I learn as a reader, writer, thinker, storyteller?

As a reader I learnt you can make out a full story with six words. It can be easy yet difficult to fully understand what the words are trying to portray. As a writer I learnt that stories can be told in six words or six pages. It takes time to find the right words to write the story you want readers to understand. As a thinker I learnt you have to really look past the words and go beyond whats in from of you.

I took this picture during summer at Frenchway bakery. I was babysitting close to there and decided to go one morning! I really enjoy the photo because it's such a cute latte picture. I usually don't take pictures of my drinks or food like some people do, but I liked the look of the unique cup and foam from my drink. I made the font hand writing because I thought it added a nice touch. I added "... "at the end of the memoir to keep the reader thinking.

This is a picture of my sister in her pointe shoes. Her and I have been doing pointe for 3 years, I would say it has to be one of my favourite types of dance I do. The memoir was meant to tell the story of when I dance I can escape everything around me. I put the color to black and white because I like how the shadows of the pointe shoes are very noticeable. I used a font that was elegant and pretty just pointe dancing.

This is a picture of my cousins backyard, it’s the only house on my mothers side that hasn’t moved houses since my childhood. Their house can always make me think of the fun times I had growing up and spending time there. I think it would be fun to relive my childhood because being a kid was definitely easier and lots of fun! I added the black and white effect because I think it gives the impression of the past, I also added a smaller font to focus more on the scenery in the picture.

I choose this picture from my road trip out of the many pictures I took because it has the cool effect where it looks actually looks like your looking out the car window. I brightened the sky, road and fields to highlight where the color shows the most during pictures. I had an amazing time during my road trip and it would be amazing to have another. I made the font look like someones writing as if someone was actually writing the sentence. I added the coma so you would pause while reading it to stop and think.

This is a picture of my dog, his name is Ernie. A friend gave him to us when they moved houses and couldn’t take him. He is always there to greet me whenever I come home no matter what time it is. The memoir is saying how he is my favorite to come home to. I always say he’s my main man because he is the only guy living in my house. I used the color yellow because it’s a happy color, I didn’t make the font super big, that way it wasn't to much yellow.

I thought of this memoir for this picture right when we got the project. I always loved this picture my friend took while we were driving through Kansas and thought it fits perfect. “Choose Love” was written on a bridge we drove by. I thought it was very unique and was nice to see because something that is so small like that can brighten someones day. I made the font bigger to emphasis the memoir, I made it a bright pink color because its the color most people think of for love, also for it to add some color to the picture.

I choose this picture taken by my friend at the beach because it shows how when your at the beach you can just forget about anything in your life and just take the time to do anything you like (as shown in this picture make a giant a flower out of rocks) I added a smaller font thats more calm and not to over whelming just like the beach. I used the same color as the brown rocks shown in the picture. I added the exclamation point to give more of a cheery feel because its something happy.

The memoir added to this picture was meant to show how the state has so much to do and see but to me I have no memories there, so its empty to me. The font was meant to be plain and red to match the red on the sign.  I took some color out of the picture so it didn’t look to colorful. I didn’t make the text to big because I wanted the focus to be more on the sign and background. 

Digital Footprint

The best I ever read was ... because...

I’ve read many different book but my favorite would have to be Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. I wanted to read this book because Julianne Hough was playing the main character in the movie. I decided to read the book first to have something to read while waiting for the movie to come out. I wanted to imagine my own scenes and characters then see whats different between the book and movie.This book really surprised me by having more to it then just a love story. I enjoyed the drama and the mystery. Throughout the whole book I was always trying to figure something out which kept me wanting to read more. I read this book the fastest i’ve ever read a book! This shows how great the book was because usually I do take time to read a book, no matter how good it is. The author did a good job at grabbing my attention and always wanting me to read more which made a huge difference on reading the book.

How do you decide what book you will read?

I usually decide what book I will read by either if the front cover grabs my attention (if so I will read the back summary), if there is a movie coming out of the book and the movie looks interesting, or if someone recommends the books to me. I often read romantic, mystery or drama filled books. I am always up for something new to read but always end up with something I enjoy reading. I look for catchy titles or a front picture/colors that makes the book look enjoyable. I like to hear what my friends are reading and ask if its something I could enjoy. 

In general, how do you feel about reading?

In general I do enjoy reading. I wish I read more books because I think reading can help in so many ways. I think it helps learning new words, your writing skills and expands your use of language. For myself I always have to be in the mood to read as in feeling relaxed or bored. Usually I read before bed and can read a lot when I am really into the book. It really depends on what book I am reading for me to read lots or if I have lots going on I feel like I have no time to read. I like reading books in class because I can explore different types of books and see what else is out there. It also forces me to read which I don’t mind because I wish I do read more.

Techno “Do-You” 

I own a iPhone 4S with internet access. I can access  internet without or with wifi. Sometimes in the classroom I don’t always have service. I do not own a laptop or tablet of any kind I could bring to class. I only have a Mac computer at home. I do not own a Kindle or Kobo. I have thought about buying one but I feel I wouldn’t use it to often seeing as I don’t read that often. I have a twitter account which I don’t use often. I mostly follow old and current friends and celebrities just to see whats new. I have a tumblr blog which I created a few years ago for myself and make a personal blog but now I just use it to find interesting pictures, look at inspiring quotes and to get ideas for anything like fashion, school, crafts etc. I follow blogs that are mostly similar to mine. I like the idea of using technology for this course because technology is a big part of our generation now a days. I think it will be a fun way of doing assignments. I am excited to see how my blog will turn out and to see all the progress and work I have done over the past semester.
