My name is Shelby and this is my buried life.  I have been making a bucket list of things I want to do before I die for a vey long time. Each year I add new things and I hope to continue to add and make my list grow. It's kind of scary thinking that I may be able to complete all my list by the time I am elderly, or who knows maybe I will still be completing them. One of my main passion is dance and traveling. As a kid I have never been on a vacation across the ocean or anywhere far. I have friends that go on trips all the time and have sands from many different beaches around the world. It inspired me to start a collection one day of something that can remind me of all my trips around the world.  Some where that has caught my eye is Spain. I love the culture and music and the language. I also love Greece because all the pictures I have seen look amazing. It also reminds me of my child hood and how I would watch The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and they went to Greece. Another place would be Hawaii. I would pick Hawaii because it is a beautiful tropical place and my friends kid is 5 and he has been there 6 times so I think it's my turn.. . I think it would be amazing to dance somewhere other then Manitoba. I want to see and dance on other stages and have other people watch me dance. Doing a solo has been on my list for a while, I am not nervous but it all takes time and that's what's been stopping me. Last year I did a duo with my sister which was an amazing experience. To me my bucket list doesn't have to be expensive or crazy wild things I just want to say I have completed it whether it is big or small. Some things may take a while, while others not so much and I'm ok with that because I have my whole life ahead of me. I chose the song 'I Love This Road' by Emerson Drive because I thought it fit well. I love the road I'm heading down and the road I'm making mine and all the stops that will come along the way. what now? 

Rascal Flatts has been one of my favourite country bands for a long time. When I found they were going to be at country fest in June I had to go! I saved my money got my mom to stay online and order tickets the day they were selling them. I just need to grab and pack everything when the times comes and I will be set to see and watch Rascal Flatts perform live!

Polar Bear Dad

My brother Oliver and I live with my mom. We live in this older house in a small town in South Dakota. My dad was a marine biologist and worked in different states many times and was always traveling so we never really saw him. One day Oliver and I were looking through old photo albums and we came across pictures of my dad at his job site and while flipping through the old photographs I noticed he was always with the polar bears in the pictures or pictures of his office it showed that he had an obsession with polar bears. Oliver thought it was really cool but still went off and played with his super hero toys while I continued looking through the albums. It was my birthday the next day and when I opened my gift. I noticed it was a pamphlet to Marine Land.

The next morning when we woke up packed our suit cases and mine was as full as I could make it. I made sure I had my camera, sunglasses and runners. Usually I pack too much and my mom always have to pay the extra cash for over weight luggage. After packing the taxi shows up waiting outside for my family to load our luggage. We loaded up the taxi with our plain-jane navy blue and black suitcases. While we were on our way to the airport we passed my school I saw my friends playing outside and talking like us girls usually do before school. My brother says he can’t wait to start school and I just agree and tell him the good things because I don’t want to crush his dreams. We finally arrived at the airport from a decently long drive and we got out and I noticed that the airport was pretty crowded full of people. Whenever I see the airport busy with big families I always picture a mother duck and her ducklings. I think it just looks like it with the little kids following behind with her suitcases. After getting our luggage tags and go through security we are ready to board the plane. I personally love the window seats because I love to look off in the clouds and forget about everything for just a couple minutes.. until you know my brother decides to talk to me. Of course he had to bring his  DS and play his annoying loud game right beside me. The plane is doing the usual long introduction in the two languages which I find super annoying, once the annoying voice is done our plane is off and we are close on our way in the clouds! I get lost in the clouds for while just thinking about anything that pops in my mind and then look I back and we are getting ready to land. We finally arrived in Ontario. Plane rides kind of freak me out sometimes but I still feel super relaxed which is kind of weird. After grabbing luggage and loading up the taxi we are on our way to the hotel. The drive is pretty cool, I think looking at new sceneries in a place different from what I’m used of will always be exciting. 

After arriving at our hotel which looked kind of fancy with a twist we couldn’t wait any longer we were ready to head over to Marine Land. My mom wanted to head over to the mall quickly before we go. So we go to the mall and my brother as usual ask to go to a store thats for kids. We look around the mall for a fun store for him to look around in , we find one beside the chocolate store which I’m surprised he still chose the kid store over the chocolate one.  After only a couples seconds my brother finds this polar bear costume, Oliver likes to try on the cutest things. So he goes and tries it on and looks like a mini polar bear it was so cute, so of course my mom buys it for him. Iv’e never seen him so excited before. I really never thought he liked animals, he had a super hero love going on I thought.

Finally when it was time to head our way to Marine land.  The weather was warm and the sun was shining bright. We walked in to the amusement park and looked at the map, I wanted to go see the beluga whales but my brother wanted to go inside and see the penguins and polar bears.  We headed first to see the penguins , I turn my head and the next thing I know my brother is missing. My mom is in panic and we rush looking around we come across this polar bear costume looking at the polar bears though the class. Oliver turns around and ask “ It's so finally nice to meet you." "Have you met my dad?"

New Year's Eve

most people spent there New Years eve with friends or family but I spend it with my work gang. I work many different events including weddings and that what was happening on New Year's Eve

While reading the fault in our stars I came across some interesting words.

and came across this and thought it was pretty accurate .. what do you think?

Imagery Paragraph Questions

1.     I selected this particular passage because I liked the scene I was imagining. I like the way the sentence started off ‘ I wanted to tell you about us..’, just that makes it sound like it’s going to be a happy, love, or even just a good story. It appealed to me because I love to hear happy stories or about relationships. I like how this paragraph really makes you think who he is talking too.

2.     The most common type of imagery is visual.

3.     To me the best snippet of imagery would be ‘us running’ & ‘split wine from laughing’. I choose those ones because of the image I got in my head. I picture them being happy together and enjoying wine during the sunset and having a good time.

4.     The imagery is positive, I can tell by the choice of words the author used in the paragraph. ‘Beautiful’, ‘from laughing’, ‘last day of high school’, ‘I was happy’, ‘they were happy’, ‘even let me hug her’, & ‘Congratulations was the word of the day’.

5.     I can tell the author is trying to make us feel happy and enjoy everything at that moment. The feeling how Charlie is finally happy with his life.

6.     I think the purpose of this piece of imagery is showing the true side of Charlie. I feel Charlie just wanted to say something and tell a story and it was a story that came to mind that means something to him.

Dialogue and Non Verbal Body Language

" I feel he doesn't like me anymore" stated Alice.
"Aww why?" with a confused look said Dorthy.
"He doesn't treat me the same"
"Do you know why?, There must be a reason" asked Dorthy
" I think I have been getting into to much trouble" said Alice with her eyes so small and sad.
Dorthy gave off a annoyed expression on her face. 
"Maybe you have to change a bit?" stated Dorthy.
Alice said while changing the tone in her voice. " I already do that and it's annoying! "
Alice and Dorthy's bodies were already very close together, Dorthy reached in for a hug in hope Alice would feel better.
"Let's go for a walk" Alice said with a little smile forming on her face.

Thinking of Dialogue

1.Talk about the process of eavesdropping:

i. We walked all around the hallways following different groups of people. Stayed inside the school.

ii.Not very long because it was hard to understand the conversations and people walked fast

iii. Two girls-most likely friends 

iv.we felt very out of place while eavesdropping on these girls 

2. What insight did you gain about the way people think?

-Some people talked very quietly or stopped talking when we approached them and some people talked very loud and didn't even notice

3. How can you apply this to your writing?

-We could make our characters have conversations about everyday things like what we heard.

4. How is personality and character revealed through conversation and dialogue?

-by the tone they use

-by the volume of their voice 

-by their language 

5. What happens when more than 2 people participate in a conversation?

-It gets harder to keep up with and there are more opinions. 

6. What was the most surprising thing you've learned about the way people converse?

-we were surprised at how loud people were talking and how they didn't seem to care about the surroundings 

7. What's the differences and similarities between written and spoken conversation?

-In written conversation you can't tell the tone of voice so you don't really know how they feel about what they're saying unlike in spoken conversation. 

-I'm spoken conversations you can easily change the subject and can get distracted.

-Both conversations in spoken and written form can be about very random topics

-oh yeah yeah yeah no way ! it was scary he's like listening and he lets me take his . it's good but he doesn't like when I bump him and don't go on the ground , but it's better that way I have a full hour and ten minutes to socialize and then we come back an half half an hour then have time to do whatever that's all we need , croutons and soup 

-I was really nervous and drank half of it

Imagery Paragraph - the perks of being a wallflower

Quick Write Rewind or Pause?

If I had to choose between a rewind or pause button I would choose the rewind button because I would definitely love to replay moments in my life whether them being exciting times or even the worst of times. I would re live all my favorite moments so I could experience them again. I would depending on the situation replay the moments I have regretted so I could fix them. Some of my worse moments wouldn't interest me to replay and fix because I wouldn't want to re live them, there over and done with. I think I would lear from my mistakes the first time and be able to fix it or try something new.

Text Connections #1

Text to Self

Charlie and his sister barely hang out and don’t have the best relationship. This reminds of my younger sister and our relationship when I was younger. We fought and had our differences but we would still always be there for one another. Now that were older my sister and I have a different relationship. We talk to each other about more stuff and buy each other things or help one another out. We hang out more and go out together. The only difference is Charlie is a sophomore like my sister and Charlie’s sister is graduating like I am which shows how my sister and I learned our differences and got along quicker then Charlie and his sister.

Text to World

In the novel Charlie walked in seeing Brad and Patrick kissing and after they noticed Charlie saw them Patrick approached Charlie and told him not to tell anyone. This is an issue around the world, having people hide there sexuality. A big part to this I believe is how judgmental people are. People are always caring to much what other think and not focusing on themselves. This is exactly what Brad is doing in the book. He is the popular guy and doesn’t want anyone knowing so it doesn’t get around. 

Christmas

Christmas is something that you will most likely be a big part of. Christmas happens once a year on the same day every year. It's a time of year were people listen to Christmas music which usually are similar songs that different people sing. Homes inside and out are decorated and the city has many lights and decorations up. Decorations are usually Christmas colors; red, green, white, blue, silver and gold. Everyone puts up a christmas tree in there house which is what you will take part in. Some choose to buy a fake tree from stores and some choose to buy a real one which is what you will be one day. After the Christmas season is over you will most likely be thrown out but don't worry think back to the wonderful Christmas season you had with the family that you got to watch, whcih you took part in.. People start to celebrate Christmas mid November - beginning of December so you have plenty of time to be that great smelling tree.

Minions For A Week

If I had a set of minions for a week I would have all my little cousins over and family friends kids to play with the minions and hopefully I could really make there dreams come true by having them meet the minions from a movie they have probably all seen. I would have them come along with me shopping, driving to work and doing errands etc. because I always prefer to have company with me. I would get them to help me with my chores and homework so I would have more time to focus on stuff I'd rather me doing like dance and other activities. I would treat them for all their hard work by taking them to sky zone because I think it would be funny to watch them jump around there.

I have taken art the last 3 years in high school. We've done many projects and I always wasn't too interested in the projects but 2 years ago we did a project which we had to research an artist and take one of their paintings and re create it. I got the chance to look through many artists and what kind of work they do. I finally found Edgar Degas which I decided was my favorite because of the main idea he likes to paint, dancers. I enjoyed all his paintings and media he used. Here are some of my favorite paintings by degas.
